This is one of the coolest places you’ll ever visit. The Grey Mule Wine Saloon in Fort Stockton, TX is a tipi on the river and a true experience you don’t want to miss. Located at 101 E Callaghan St, Fort Stockton, TX 79735, on the banks of the San Saba River, this unique lodge has an amazing view overlooking the water and offers visitors a comfortable atmosphere to spend their night. You can even take your dog for a walk or let them play in the spacious yard outside. Our family spent two nights at the saloon last summer and had an unforgettable time. It was so nice that we were able to relax outdoors with a glass of wine by our side instead of being cooped up inside all day.
We found a tipi on the river and booked it for our next trip to Texas. Our 11 year old son loved it. We spent a lazy summer evening by the river and enjoyed the quiet, peaceful setting for the night. Talk about feeling relaxed and comfortable! The Grey Mule Wine Hotel was exactly what we were looking for. We felt right at home and relaxed in a way we didn’t really feel at home when we were normally at home. We were able to unwind and enjoy each other’s company while staying in a tipi on the river.
We stayed in tipi #2 which is the tipi with an indoor/outdoor shower. Tipi #1, the tipi with the indoor shower, was also booked when we stayed there, so we got to stay in a tipi that had both an indoor and outdoor shower. Even if you don’t stay in tipi #2, you should still make a stop by tipi #1 and tipi #3, which are still available. We loved tipi #3! It has an indoor/outdoor shower and is located in the center of the property. We also stayed in tipi #1’s tipi, which has an indoor/outdoor shower. While that tipi has a bit of a walk to get to, the indoor/outdoor shower was an amazing perk. Tipi #1 is also available.
We had lunch at the restaurant one day and it was great! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We’re not wine connoisseurs by any means, but the wine by the glass was great. The restaurant had a nice outdoor seating area, with a view of the river. We would definitely recommend eating there! We also got take out from their bar, which had a great selection of beers and wine. It was a great way to get food and drink without having to leave the hotel. After spending the day relaxing by the river, you’ll definitely want to stop by the bar to relax with a glass of wine. If you’re staying at the Grey Mule, you can even get a glass of wine out of your room!
We enjoyed the live music and events we saw throughout our stay. There was a bingo night, a 4th of July celebration, and a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament. We didn’t get to attend any of them, unfortunately, but we were able to relax in the outdoor seating area and watch them from afar. We also liked being able to bring our dog along with us to the outdoor seating area, so we could relax with him, too. The room for events is pretty big, which is nice because there’s room for an even bigger bingo tournament or a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament. Besides the room for events, the saloon has a big, open, airy feel to it. It’s a great place to relax after a long day.
